So you know when I said close to two months ago that the new edition would be done by the end of the week? Well… yeah. It took longer. To be fair, the last bit of the delay was because I became really ill. But it is actually done now, and really here!

Both the game and the website for it are structured in much the same way as the new ATGOD - there’s a core rules book, containing just the rules for the game, and a “World of Day of Glory” book that gives you all the lore and history, and pictures. The core rules are pretty long, but don’t be put off! The bits that you need to play a game are only a few pages, the rest is optional rules, and various ways to add complexity if you want.

And yeah, this took a LONG time to finish, so I am very happy its done now. A lot of the core of the game hasn’t changed much from the previous edition, but I’ve made it much clearer and better, and added a ton more stuff. There’s more spells, weapons, creatures, everything. And of course this edition also comes with a lot more background than the snippets I put into the previous rulebook. I did always have a vision for the world in my head, I just never really put it into writing before. But now you can read all about it! Also, this version is much more professional in terms of layout and editing than the last one. I would consider the previous edition to have been a step up from the original ATGOD in terms of my game-writing, since I did finish it later, after I’d had the experience of making ATGOD, but it was still early on, and I have learned a lot since.

And though the new edition is fully playable in its current form, it is far from done… I mentioned in a previous post that I’d been struggling to decide what to do with all the army lists, and the solution I eventually settled on was to put the lists for the thirteen factions of the previous edition into the main rulebook in a very short and simple way. In fact, the lists are very similar to how they looked in the older edition, with just some minor changes to make them fit the new rules. But this is not the end.

Every faction is going to get a much more detailed and interesting list, together with loads more lore in a series of expansions where factions will be put into groups based roughly on their geography. Because it’s currently the season, the first (possibly two) of these will be set in the Northlands, but eventually the whole world detailed in the current publication will be covered by these expansions. There’ll be lots of proper, unique units for each faction, histories, famous characters, and rules to represent each faction’s quirks like their fighting styles, gods, and loads more. I’m pretty excited to write these, and I’m really looking forwards to doing so now that the main rules are finally done.

But DOG won’t be the only thing I’ll be working on - I’ll also continue on the miniatures front for both my main games, and ATGOD will also likely get some expansions in some form or another. Anyway, I need to sleep now, so enjoy the new game!
